The 1951 flood of Kansas was a very tough time for all of Kansas. It started out as a minor flood, having a maximum of 18.5 inches of water, a little problem, but not much. But then the Big Blue River overflowed, bringing the average water height in Manhattan Kansas to eight feet. All of that water then flowed downhill flooding Kansas City, Topeka, and Lawrence Kansas. All of this flooding caused an form of transportation to halt in its tracks. According kshs.org/ - The flood destroyed most roads, moved the railroad tracks and left all of the powerlines and communication towers in shambles. While many buildings were destroyed, over 7000 in Topeka alone were left either weakened or destroyed.
The overall cost was a whopping 725,000,000 ($6,684,877,848 today)
