In 1945 WWII ends but there were still enemies lurking, the Soviet Union and Communism. The Soviet Union participated in conflicts in Korea and Vietnam in the late 1900s, indirectly against the United States. These conflicts were called the proxy wars of the Cold War.

According to the website Kansas 150 SLK, the Korean War, also known as the "Forgotten War", was fought from 1950-1953. It was marked as the first major armed conflict of the Cold War involving the United Nations (UN). The conflict was never fully resolved as the tension can still be felt between Korea and The UN.

During the war many Kansan military units and medics served. There were over 400 Kansan casualties in the war. Many more sustained serious injuries.

According to Ducksters the Vietnam War began in 1955. It was fought between the Communist Northern Vietnam and the government of Southern Vietnam. The North was supported by China and the Soviet Union. The South was supported by America and other anti-communist countries. 753 Kansans died serving during the war. At last in 1975 the war ended. America and the South Vietnamese lost the war.

During the 20th century, many wars have been fought. Tension is still very high across the world. Across the Middle East, there are civil wars still being fought and America and primarily Kansas is trying to help end these wars.
