Charles Curtis, born January 25, 1860, was an American attorney and politician, elected as the 31st Vice President of the United States from 1929 to 1933 with President Herbert Hoover, his running mate. He grew up using both Native-American, and European traditions and lifestyles.

Starting as an attorney, his political career began at the age of 32. He worked his way through the ranks of power on the political scale becoming a Republican on the US House of Representatives, and towards the top, he was elected senator for Kansas in 1906 serving 3 terms and receiving much of the popular vote for those 3 terms. This ended in 1929 when he announced that he would be running for Vice-President. He left office in 1933 due to the Great Depression.

Being a Native American just made him an iconic figure making him the first Native American to hold one of the highest powers in government. Not only that but he was the first person to hold one of those powers that was not a European-American. Overall he broke the color barrier in office and became important because of his adept law knowledge to get him into those high positions.

Charles Curtis died on February 8, 1936 due to a heart attack.
