WWI in KS

World War One was a global war centered around Europe, but included an astonishing 1

35 countries from around the world. Starting on July 28th, 1914, and ending only four years later, it took on many names, most famously, The Great War, The World War, and The War to End all Wars. With 15 million casualties, it has gained the title of the 6th deadliest conflict in the world, ever.

Each state in the war played it’s part in the war. Kansas was one of these states. Camp Funston, at Fort Riley, served as a very important World War One training camp throughout the war. Most American troops arrived in France in the spring of 1918, just in time to serve as reserves in the St. Mihiel offensive. Their first major action, however, came in the Meuse-Argonne campaign, which broke the German resistance. The 89th or "Middle West" Division was made up of troops from Kansas, Missouri, and Colorado. Kansan James Harbord became a high ranking official in World War One leading the service and supply division of the war. Kansas in total was the lead producer of farm products to feed the troops.

The National WWI Museum in Kansas City Missouri took a very interesting role on educating and informing people on the World War by using a lot of interactive and high tech information. Such as a laser pointing computer screen where you point the laser at a point on the screen and it will pull that specific information up. It has plenty of facts and information blended in with the fun tour and I can highly recommend going.
