John Brown was an abolitionist who was born in Torrington, Connecticut, he moved to Kansas almost as soon as it was opened for settlement. Some actions that people might consider heroic are, helping slaves escape, hoping to create a free black community in the mountains of Virginia and Maryland. He made The League of Gileadites to protect escaped slaves from bounty hunters, he also helped in the Underground railroad, and he once moved to a black community to show support for their cause.
We now have some reasons for why he could be called a villain. It was said that he was involved in the Pottawatomie Creek Massacre, however this was never proven. He also created an armed group of 21 people too take over a national armory, the reason he did this is because he wanted to create a strong-hold that escaped slaves could flee to.
He was sentenced to death on November 2nd, 1859, and was executed on December 2nd, 1859, four years after he first moved to Kansas.
Should his image/painting be displayed in Topeka at the state capitol?
No, I do not think so, because he did so many evil things. The ends do not justify the means. If they’re going to fight, have a fight of words, not guns. What do you think?
