In the year of 1803, a deal was made by the name of the Louisiana Purchase. This deal involved an area of over 828,000 square miles which went from the Rocky Mountains all the way to the Gulf of Mexico, and consisted of 13 states, which is roughly 20% of America. This area discovered by the Spanish, was given to the French when the two countries allied in a Treaty which was signed in the year of 1795. Later that year, Thomas Jefferson, worried by the presence of the French, sent Mr.Livingston to the French Leader, Napoleon Bonaparte. Later another diplomat was sent to the deal to speed it up. Quite quickly, the deal ended on April 30 and the land was sold for $15,000,000. After the deals, Thomas Jefferson curious what was in the area, sent explorers Lewis and Clark which is discussed in another Article.
